Specialist consultants naturally focus on their individual deliverables. The owner-side adviser tests whether those outputs remain aligned with the approved feasibility case, funding capacity, commercial structure and board objectives.
Clarify authority and accountability
Decision rights, escalation routes, approval bodies and adviser responsibilities should be documented at mobilisation. Ambiguity at the beginning becomes delay and dispute later.
Track dependencies and acceptance
Deliverables need defined review periods, acceptance criteria and comment-resolution procedures. A decision, action, risk and issue structure improves traceability without replacing formal project management.
Respect professional boundaries
Owner-side support should coordinate and challenge but not present itself as legal counsel, engineer, technical certifier, contracting authority or award decision-maker.
